Aeroflex's whole growth story is 15,000 skids it hasn't finished building
I read 12 quarters of Aeroflex Industries transcripts and decks, plus 5 broker notes, one commitment at a time, to build the guidance section for it — the first time I've done that for this company. The pivot into liquid cooling is real. The capacity behind it keeps slipping its own deadline.
The record first. 38 commitments tracked from Q2 FY24 to Q1 FY27. Of the financial guides that have closed, 3 of 4 were met — adequate delivery. Of 16 dated promises, 6 have slipped, 10 times between them. The company's flagship capacity build — the one the whole forward story depends on — accounts for 3 of those slips by itself.
That's scored the same way for every company on this site: arithmetic, not framing. A guide met against its final version but missed against its opening one is written up as exactly that.
What Aeroflex guides
Strip it down and management gives you two growth numbers for FY27, set at the Q4 FY26 call and not revised since.
- Overall revenue growth: ~35%, SFN-led.
- Base business (everything except the new liquid-cooling line): ~15-20%, roughly in line with what the hose-and-assembly business has delivered for years.
The gap between those two numbers is the whole story, and it isn't diversified. It's one line — SFN Skid Assemblies — guided to go from about 5% of FY26 revenue to 20-22% of FY27. Q1 FY27 already printed 22% for the quarter, so management is on pace, for now.
The story is how
Four quarters ago, SFN wasn't a line item. Reading the transcripts in order, the reveal is slow: an unnamed liquid-cooling "collaboration" surfaces in Q4 FY25, a customer described only as a listed U.S. corporation with a market cap "over $50 billion" in Q1 FY26, and an analyst — not management — coins the term "SFN" on the Q3 FY26 call. Management just adopts it from there.
The mechanism behind the 20-22% target is one capacity build, in four parts:
- The exclusivity. A signed 5-year agreement, India market only, with that named U.S. customer, confirmed on the Q3 FY26 call. It has held through a real stress test: a ~50% U.S. tariff on the base hose business hit in 2025, and management said on the Q2 FY26 call that "the business from the U.S. has not dipped," because switching a qualified supplier "is not that easy" and "takes time." That single relationship is also the entire SFN revenue base — there is no second named customer yet.
- The capacity build. Skid-assembly capacity has scaled 2,000 → 6,000 → 9,000 units a year, with 9,000 delivered as of Q1 FY27. The next step, to 15,000 units, is where the story gets less clean — see below.
- The capex. ₹48 crore budgeted for the full 2,000-to-15,000-unit build, per the Q1 FY27 call — a funded, not aspirational, number.
- The pricing. Per-skid pricing was first given as a blended average of ₹3-3.25 lakh (Q4 FY26), then reframed in Q1 FY27 as a ₹1-5 lakh range depending on design — a broadening of how the number is described, not a contradiction of the earlier figure.
International expansion is the fifth piece management keeps gesturing at — "on track," "in talks with a few potential customers" — but as of Q1 FY27 it is still 100% domestic, and management has declined to name a date.
The one number
The 15,000-unit annual capacity target has been restated three times, and each restatement pushed the finish line back. First given in Q3 FY26 as "June 2026." Restated in Q4 FY26 to "Q2 FY27." Restated again in Q1 FY27 — on the same call that reported 72.4% YoY revenue growth — to "October to November," which the MD attributed directly to a machine-supplier delay: "it is difficult to tell an exact [date] because it depends on our machine supplier." That's the one number I'd watch before any of the growth percentages: whether the next call reports 15,000 units, or a fourth date.
Where the record is weak
The clean miss. Back in Q2 FY24, before any of the SFN story existed, management guided FY24 revenue growth at "30% to 40%." The company delivered 17.98%. It was never revisited or explained — just quietly not repeated.
The mix target nobody called a cut. From Q1 FY25 through Q4 FY25, management repeatedly guided 60-70% of revenue from assembly products within 3-4 years — "our ambitious goal," reaffirmed twice. From Q1 FY26 on, the language shifted to "more than 50%... in line with our full year targets," with no acknowledgment that the target had moved. The actual print by Q3 FY26 was 54% — comfortably inside the new framing, a clear miss against the old one.
The line that got quietly wound down. A Miniature Metal Bellows expansion was guided at 240,000 pieces a year for four straight quarters. At Q3 FY26 the target was cut to 50,000 pieces on the call itself (a same-day deck said 60,000 — the two were never reconciled). By Q4 FY26, management said there would be no further expansion at all, and the allocated capital was redeployed to SFN. It hasn't been mentioned since.
What the live book rests on
Of 31 open commitments, 7 are backed by something already signed, funded or delivered — the exclusivity agreement, the SFN capex, the capacity already reached. 14 rest on management's word with a defined horizon but no external backing. 10 are softer aspirations the company itself flags as long-range or analyst-prompted. That's what "ambitious, only partly evidenced" means in the guidance section for this one: the near-term base business is a stable, funded core, and the FY27 headline number depends on a ramp that's real but still young. The guardrail check makes the ambition explicit — the ~35% FY27 guide is roughly double the ~17% the company actually delivered over the trailing year.
What I'm not claiming
- This is one quarter of the SFN pivot actually printing revenue. Three quarters of a skid table is not a track record; it's a start.
- I can't independently verify the customer relationship beyond what's said on calls — no name, just ">$50 billion market cap."
- The value-added mix miss (60-70% quietly becoming "more than 50%") reads as a walk-back to me. Management never called it one, and I'm reading intent from what stopped being said rather than from an explicit statement.
- This is a note about how Aeroflex guides, not investment advice.
What I'll be watching
- Whether the next call reports 15,000 skid-assembly units, or a fourth restated date.
- Whether a second SFN customer gets named, or the business stays concentrated in one relationship.
- Whether the 54% value-added mix holds, drifts toward the newer "more than 50%" framing, or someone finally reconciles it against the original 60-70% goal.
- Any update on international skid orders, still undated as of Q1 FY27.
The full ledger, with every quote and the quarter it was made, is on the Aeroflex guidance page.
